ShaderTFX is a plug-in based system that consists of a shader editor, a shader stack editor and a shader stack viewer. The shader editor is a new feature of ShaderTFX v.0.6. A shader file (.fx) is a simple text file which contains shader code. The shader code is written in XML syntax. Shader files may contain any of the available properties within the ShaderTFX API. A shader stack is a collection of shader files that are used to create a custom effect. In addition to the shader files, a shader stack contains a header file that describes the shader stack, a shader stack viewer and an XML file that describes the parameters and available effects of the shader stack. ShaderTFX v.0.6 uses these files to define custom effects in a shader stack editor, and the XML files are used to create custom effects in a shader stack viewer.
ShaderTFX is designed to be used with Movie Maker (MM) v.6. ShaderTFX v.0.6 is not compatible with or dependent on the MM v.5 API. ShaderTFX v.0.6 uses the new GPU processing architecture introduced in the MM v.6 API. A shader file (.
The ShaderTFX API is an OpenCL extension that describes the available shader properties that may be used to create custom effects and transitions. There are two possible shader types that a shader stack may be based on: Instance and Material. Instance shaders create a new shader stack when used, as they are designed for creating custom instances of 3D models. Material shaders are designed for creating custom materials. In addition, shader stacks may contain one or multiple effect properties. These properties are used to create custom transitions. ShaderTFX v.0.6 supports two effect properties that may be used to create custom effects: Transition and Transparent.
The shader stack editor and the shader stack viewer are two new features of ShaderTFX v.0.6. The shader stack editor is a plug-in for Movie Maker that displays and manipulates a shader stack's XML file. It also allows the user to browse shader files and properties that are available within the shader stack, and contains a preview window for the shader stack. The shader stack viewer is an application that is used to create and modify shader stacks.
The ShaderTFX dialog has a number of sub-options. A full list of available options is available by clicking the options button. For example, the “Effects/Transitions” sub-options are available by clicking the arrows or the options button.
The shader file has to be compiled into a “.fx” file which is a proprietary binary format that contains the shader code and all the required information to execute it. ShaderTFX provides the necessary tools to compile.fx files from the shader programming languages:
GLSL
HLSL
Cg
In order to display shader effects, ShaderTFX can either be installed as a Silverlight plug-in, or compiled as a standalone executable (.exe) that can be executed directly from the Windows Explorer context menu. The plug-in is included in the download provided below. 827ec27edc
