We support four server roles that run user applications and services, some of which are offered through the Ohio State University Thoughtful Computing Initiative: Application Servers: These run Microsoft IIS and SQL Server and offer a Microsoft Office 365 subscription-free environment in which to host their websites and to run their applications. Web Servers: This role runs Microsoft IIS and Microsoft WebMatrix and provides a flexible content delivery service. Operating System Servers: This role runs a user operating system (Windows Server), provides one or more user directories, and is often used to host IIS sites that will be accessed by a network. System Servers: This role runs a resource-intensive operating system service (for example, printer spooling) or hardware and provides a server installation for the administration of a campus network.

The client Information Security Office (CISO) has been granted a license for a virtual machine that is used exclusively to support the e-mail removal service. The license is valid until August 1, 2020. For separate e-mail removal license, please contact the CISO by email at dillavamail@osu.edu .

Apache OpenOffice provides secure access to a user-friendly office suite at no charge. Licenses with commercial features are available for purchase. The user must have purchased a University-Plex for OSU. The user must also be licensed to have the commercial features included in the software. This license is key-tracked within the university-wide Dynamics 365 Office and includes Microsoft Teams, Groove, OneDrive, and SharePoint, and includes commercial features. Grisoft Inc. Global Software Solutions develops proprietary software products to optimize the delivery of information to users.
