Wacom Intuos 2 Serial To Usb

NOTE: The uploading of colour images over a serial connection to a colour STU is too slow to be user-friendly and for this reason the 540 allows for the pre-uploading of images into ROM for superior response times. This requires special handling in the application.

Use this utility to change the STU to serial VCP mode. No parameters are required. You can verify that the STU is in serial mode by viewing the serial ports with getSerialPorts.exe.Verify the connection using query.exe:

Please note that the instructions below are only needed if the 540 is to be configured as a serial device.Normally it is expected that the 540 will be used as a standard HID device (as supplied from the manufacturer).
This registry entry may sometimes be required when using standard (i.e. non-serial) STU and DTU devices with version 7.6.3 of Citrix and onwards. For this reason please see below the product ID (PID) values for the most common Wacom tablets and pads.
You need to install WacomTablet_605-7 -- you can get that from the Wacom website, that is the highest-version wacom driver that supports serial port tablets. I got mine to work today. Here are the steps I've taken:
Hopefully this works for you. Even if it doesn't, keep trying. I can confirm that a Wacom serial tablet works on Windows 7 64-bit without using a USB converter. Thanks to everyone in this thread for helping me out.
on behalf of the apparent army of serial 9x12 owners who apparently take too good care of our tools for them to break down, and don't feel compelled or don't have the means to upgrade to the newer models of tablets.
I got my serial intuos1 tablet working with hamms workaround, only thing I did different was UNcheck the run as admin box when installing in Vista compatibility mode. This gave me the Wacom options menu. Only thing I cant get working yet is pressure sensitivity in photoshop, works fine in alias sketchbook though. To be continued...
In only one instance have I managed to get the wacom driver installed without the yellow warning triangle on the Prolific adapter in device manager. This was using Hamm's method, but when I reinstalled the driver with vista rather than Windows 2000 settings the yellow warning triangle appeared again and the wacom driver was not recognised
After trying many of the proposed solutions mentioned, I finally got my WACOM GD-0912-R serial tablet to work (on Windows 7 64-bit Professional Edition) using Hamms method (see above -- thanks Hamms!!).
** BUT ** the essential thing in Hamms method is using a (high-speed) Serial-to-PCI card.I tried using the serial port which is on my motherboard, but that didn't work. Neither did a Serial-to-USB cable.
ARRRGGGHHHHH I DONT GET IT..... i also have a intous2 ... ive tried everything here i hve a usb to serial connector downloaded the zip for for it to work yep that works fine nopower cable in then i went to start search regedit.exe and went to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\\SOFTWARE then added a new key called tablet and added new string value on to that PnPTablets then right clicked it and added value ,COM3
device shows the usb connector as com3 like yours and i did as u said i pluggd in my power cable.... was i supose to reset before doing this cuz i didnt.... the installed that driver from wacom on system windows 7 , as i run on home premium, 6.10.6 installed , i reset comp.... light comes on when pen touches tablet but no curser moving plz tell me where im going wrong!!!! i miss my tablet to get to me quicker gotto my facebook !/robert.johnson.96742277 as i dont check my mail much but will everyday untill i get it working again
Bought the serial new, back in the day, and picked up the USB for 50(!) euro at a flea market a few years back (w/o pen tho..) and started using the usb as it doesn't need the external power supply and was slightly less worn.
So I thought to see if the serial was as sensitive as the usb, and if I could connect both at the same time, one per monitor and using same pen, leaving the thinking-of-something-clever-to-do-with-the-keyboard for later.. =]
Hi Hamms , my wacom xd 0912 r (serial) on Window 7 professional 64 bit with your system works. But when I restart the computer the next day, the tablet does not work anymore, the green light turns on to the tablet but the pen does not work. have you any solutions
So this is all good info, but I still haven't been able to get my Intuous GD-0912-R to work on my computer. I'm using Windows 7 x64 bit and a Prolific USB serial adapter. This driver for my USB adapter seems to be working fine as it shows up in the Device Manager and I believe the Intuos driver is installing fine as well. My problem is that Device Manager doesn't recognize the tablet under 'Other Devices'. It simply shows up as 'unknown device' and not 'WACOM GD'. Under 'Mice' it recognizes the 'Wacom Mouse'.
At first it didn't work at all, so I got a better serial to USB converter (Tronix ftdi). This was better as I finally managed to get the pen working using the Windows 2000 compatability mode. But then opened up Photoshop and there was no pressure sensitivity. I installed again with Vista compatability and it went back to not working at all. It's really frustrating. Does anyone know how to get it to work with the full pressure sensitivity in programs such as Photoshop etc
Now the same tablet has lasted through many PC upgrades. However as time progressed it got progressively more difficult to get working with later OS versions, and especially with the switch to 64 bit versions of windows. Also this was a RS232 serial tablet, and Wacom dropped driver support for serial tablets some time back. While It was possible for a while to get it working with serial to USB adaptors, that eventually became impossible as well as the serial tablet drivers don't appear to be available in 64 bit versions. 153554b96e
