The film skips ahead a few years to show Shiva and Sindhya, husband and wife, having a child. Sindhya is working, while Shiva is an unemployed husband, looking after the child at home. Sindhya's brother Randy, a psychiatrist, tries to help by setting up a trick for Shiva to discover his interests. He sets up a plot in which Shiva overhears Sindhya talking to a person named Mahesh who is really Randy, making Shiva think that the child is not his, but someone else's. Sindhya and Randy want Shiva to overhear them talking. Shiva gets suspicious about who Mahesh is and starts getting data from the library, helped by Vasanth. The climax is in the people he meets and he finally figures who it is. He accuses Sindhya and tries to kill the child. His family and Randy then explain what happened. He then rewrites the test and passes. The movie ends with Shiva getting a job and Randy still on his case on whether he is back to normal.
The satellite rights of the film were sold to Sun TV. The film was given an "A" certificate by the Indian Censor Board. The film released in 72 screens on 26 April 2013 with another movie, Naan Rajavaga Pogiren.[6]
The film received below average reviews from critics. The Times of India wrote, "If double-meaning, adult jokes are your cup of tea, you will enjoy this movie."[8] Indianexpress wrote, "With a wafer-thin plot, the debutant director weaves together a string of incidents. At times, it seems more like a theater of the absurd, with quirky characters and scenes added on just for its bizarre humor quotient, rather than for its relevance to the plot."[9] Behindwoods wrote, "To sum it up, Yaaruda Mahesh is a unidirectional product that targets youth with liberal dose of adult humor but is not powerful enough to sustain the interests through the entire length of the film."[10][11]
After Athidhi's release, Babu took a break from films for seven months; two months later, he signed Khaleja, but the break was unintentionally extended for two years due to several delays. During this time, Babu's grandmother and his wife Namrata's parents died. Krishna was worried about Babu's career as the film's shoot was delayed for so long.[53] Upon release, Khaleja received mixed reviews from critics and was a commercial failure in India.[54] However, it managed to perform well at the overseas box office.[55] Rediff gave a 3 out of 5 rating and noted "The duo of Mahesh-Trivikram delivers a product that is watchable, entertaining with good humour, couple of well-orchestrated action sequences and songs and with a bit to take home as well. The soundtrack of the film was composed by Devi Sri Prasad. The album features five songs, out of which three of them were released as singles. The first single "Bharat Ane Nenu" was released on 25 March 2018, at the occasion of Ram Navmi. The second single "I Don't Know" was launched on 1 April 2018.Farhan Akhtar lent his voice for the song "I Don't Know", which is first time for a South Indian movie. The third track "Vachaadayyo Swami", was released on 6 April 2018. The soundtrack was launched at the pre-release event which took place in the Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium on 7 April 2018, with N. T. Rama Rao Jr. being the chief guest.[6]
Manjrekar has acted in several films, including some of his own productions. He was first seen in the Door darshan Marathi series named Kshitij, in which he played a leprosy patient. He first gained acclaim as an actor for his performance in the 2002 film Kaante, and later played negative roles in the Tamil film Arrambam (2013), Telugu film Okkadunnadu (2007) and as the gangster Javed in the film Slumdog Millionaire (2008). He played Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj in the Marathi film Me Shivajiraje Bhosale Boltoy. He also played the role of Harpeez Dongara in the Aakhri Chunauti series of episodes in the Indian TV series C.I.D.. Manjrekar was acclaimed for the role as inspector D.R. Talpade in the movie Wanted.
Rashmika Mandanna was signed to play the leading lady in the movie opposite Mahesh Babu.[9] Vijayashanti was signed in for this film,[10] which marked her comeback after 13 years.[11] Tamannaah was signed in for a party song.[12] The film also marks the comeback of Sangeetha and Bandla Ganesh into movies after many years.[13]

A 43-second video titled #MeetRishi was released on 9 August 2018, coinciding with Mahesh Babu's birthday.[60] The video revealed the character played by Babu in the film.[61] On 10 March 2019, Mahesh Babu shared a few behind-the-scenes pictures in the social media.[62][63] The official teaser of the film titled #JoinRishi was released on Ugadi, 6 April 2019.[64][65][66] To promote the film, a pre-release event was held on 1 May 2019, at People's Plaza, Necklace Road, Hyderabad.[41][67][68] The official trailer and complete audio album of the film were released at the event.[69][70][71] Various music artistes of the soundtrack album performed songs from the film.[72][73] Vijay Deverakonda and Venkatesh were the chief guests of the event.[74][75][76] On 16 May 2019, an interactive event titled Maharshulatho Maharshi was held in Hyderabad, in which Paidipally and Babu had an interaction/interview with the farmers.[77][78] Later, a similar event titled Repati Maharshulatho Maharshi was held, in which both of them interacted with the school students of The Hyderabad Public School.[79] Eight days after the release, an event was held at Vijayawada, Andhra Pradesh, to celebrate the film's success.[80] The event, titled Maharshi Vijayotsavam, was held on 18 May 2019.[81][82] In June 2019, the event Celebrating Maharshi was held at Shilpakala Vedika, Hyderabad, to celebrate the film's 50 day run in 211 movie theaters across India.[83][84]
The film's audio teaser was released on 17 December 2013, a few days before the audio launch.[90] The theatrical trailer of the movie was released on 25 December 2013.[91] South Indian actress Samantha Ruth Prabhu found a poster of Sanon crawling behind Babu "regressive", triggering a backlash on Facebook and Twitter from Babu's fans.[92] Actor Siddharth and filmmaker Sekhar Kammula shared her view, receiving a similar response,[93][94] and filmmaker Pritish Nandy said that the poster was "gross" and "regressive".[94] Sukumar later removed that sequence from the film to avoid further issues, although the Central Board of Film Certification did not object to its inclusion.[95]
According to an early report from the International Business Times, 1: Nenokkadine received negative reviews from critics.[96] Later reports suggest that the reviews were mixed.[97][98] According to The New Indian Express, its audience was "gripped through the whole film, but not for the right reasons": "Ending with a heralding of a second 'Green Revolution' and carrying on a legacy that aims at a food Utopia, you wish the movie continued with the schizophrenia and ended in an asylum".[99] Karthik Pasupulate of The Times of India gave the film three out of five stars: "The [Telugu cinema] format of six songs, five fights and loads of entertainment and melodrama makes it impossible to respectably adapt racy Hollywood styled suspense thrillers".[100] Radhika Rajamani of Rediff called the film "inordinately long, with repetitive scenes and slow and sluggish narration", and a "sense of ennui set in after a point"; however, Rajamani praised the lead actors' performances.[101] Sify gave the film 2.75 out of five stars: "In 1 Nenokkadine, individual sequences are cool but the same cannot be said if we see it in totality. Apart from Mahesh Babu's stunning performance, the drive of the film is completely off the track. It disappoints."[102] Suresh Kavirayani of Deccan Chronicle gave the film 2.5 out of five stars: "To say it in a line, the film falls short of expectations and disappoints film goers, especially the fans of Mahesh Babu".
