The BDP-S5000ES uses a set-top-box video passthrough input to output the video signal from your cable or satellite-television receiver. For cable, the input provides RF passthrough, allowing the BPD-S5000ES to receive a standard cable signal such as Hybrid Logical Demux, HD Cable, or LPCM, and pass it out via your television.
Communications via remote control with the BDP-S5000ES is handled by a standard IR VIRTUAL CONTROL connection that's compatible with all current IR-enabled remote controls and universal remotes. There's also a USB port for connecting a USB-enabled game controller, although I haven't tested that myself.
Recharging the BDP-S5000ES with its included AC adapter is a two-step process that takes approximately five hours. You expose the back-panel screw holes first, then peel back the protective tape that covers the unit's backlighting grid to expose the connectors for the power cord and optional DC power port.
Speaking of that, the back of the unit is also covered with a protective plastic sheet that can be removed should the front be damaged in a drop or similar mishap. A three-prong AC power cord of the included 120V/60Hz variety is included.
The BDP-S5000ES is a 1U player that will fit into any HDMI or component video-equipped video-game console. Its connectivity is HDMI 1.1a "high-definition multimedia interface" (with a possible future update to HDMI 1.3a) out, Dual-Link DVI out, component video out, and an optical audio output. d2c66b5586
